A a silver-striped cat darted across the gray concrete floor of an apartment laundry mat. In her mouth she carried a lifeless fluff of fur;It appeared to be small rodent. Stephen couldn't care less what species the prey was, as long as it was edible. The long-furred cat scurried through a crack between the washer and the white-painted concrete wall. There wasn't much more than a few raggedy towels banded together in bundles behind the dryer, but it was home to Stephen and her brother. The cats made their den there because it provided food, water, and warmth on blustery winter days. The only flaws of were the innumerable number of two-legs who lived on the upper floor, and were constantly throwing their soiled garments in and out of the machines.

Sam walked down the stairs a load of laundry in his arms. He turned and called to Andy but got no answer. "Playing video games," Sam sighed. He grunted from the effort and stopped at the bottom to catch his breath. She noticed a small cat walking along with a fuzzy creature. Sam bent down and cooed, "Hello little kitty."

Stephan's eyes grew to the brim with fright and hissed. She slung out a paw with intent of scratching the human with her recently-sharpened claws. With fear and anger she struck his muzzle, the blood oozing out of the wound like a red stream. Stephan yelped at the sight and violently squirmed her way passed the large up-walker and out into the open air. She was unsure whether the human had done something to her brother. Her whiskers twitched faintly as she watched the human's reaction from her hiding spot under an old wooden bookcase.

Sam whipped his nose, "Well that's no way to treat a friendly person! You look like a guard cat. Who's your owner?" Sam said still speaking to the cat, which in this world is odd.
